Proverbs 20:1
Wine produces mockers; alcohol leads to brawls. Those lead astray
by drink cannot be wise.
Romans 13:13-14
Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see.
Don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness or in
sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or quarreling or jealousy. Instead
clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let
yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
Galatians 5:19-21
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature the results are very
clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery,
hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition,
dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like
these. Let me tell you again, as I have before anyone living that sort
of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Titus 1:7
A church leader is a manager of God's household, so he must live a
blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered, he must not
be a heavy drinker, violent or dishonest with money.
1 Timothy 5:23
Drink no longer water but use a little wine for thy
stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."
Ecclesiastes 5:18
acknowledges that enjoying good food, wine, and work is acceptable.
Ecclesiastes 9:7
advises eating bread with joy and drinking wine with a merry heart.
**The answer is, it's not a sin to drink, but it is a sin to get
drunk!!**
King Solomon, regularly enjoyed wine (even some that was highly
intoxicating) but not in quantities where his wisdom was affected
(Ecclesiastes 2:3, Song of Solomon 8:2)
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
**We as Christians should live a righteous life. We are known
by our fruits! We should be obedient to Christ and his word.

Very well written! And a balanced, Biblical approach to this subject. Partaking of something containing alcohol vs. full-blown drunkenness.
ReplyDeleteMakes one think about our motivation when drinking anything alcoholic, and whether we'll have self-control to not become "drunk," and whereby no longer have a sober-mind, as the Scripture commands born-again, Spirit-filled believers to have — at all times. Not just sometimes.
To some, having anything alcoholic can be a stumbling block, whereas others don't struggle with maintaining Biblical boundaries when it comes to alcohol.
Very thought-provoking. I would imagine this to be a hot-topic among those who are easily triggered. Keep on putting Biblical truth out there, with the boldness and faith that God has given you! When you speak Biblical truth, the Holy Spirit will use it to speak to hearts and minds, whatever the topic is.
Again, excellent blog!
